Biliverdin reductase B pseudogene

Molecular classification
Other (Pseudogene)
01

Overview

This genomic locus represents a processed pseudogene of the biliverdin reductase B (BLVRB) gene. Pseudogenes are DNA sequences generated by reverse transcription and retrotransposition of gene transcripts, usually lacking promoters and missing the ability to be transcribed into functional proteins[3]. As such, ENSG00000230840 does not encode a functional enzyme and has no direct role in biological processes, disease pathways, or therapeutic intervention. Pseudogenes can sometimes regulate gene expression post-transcriptionally (e.g., by acting as miRNA sponges), but there is no evidence for a specific regulatory function associated with this particular pseudogene[5][1].
