Binary toxin CDT (CDT)

Target
CDT
Molecular classification
Toxin, ADP-ribosyltransferase, Binary Toxin
01

Overview

Binary toxin CDT is a two-component exotoxin produced by some *C. difficile* strains that enhances virulence through disruption of host cell actin dynamics and promotion of bacterial adherence via unique cellular protrusions. Its presence serves as both a marker for more severe disease risk and as an emerging target for novel therapeutics aimed at mitigating serious outcomes from CDI caused by hypervirulent lineages.

Other names
Clostridioides difficile transferaseCDTa/CDTb
02

Mechanism of action

CDTa ADP-ribosylates G-actin, preventing actin polymerization and causing cytoskeletal collapse.

03

Biological functions
