The biotin-streptavidin complex on a bacterial spore surface is a specialized biotechnological assembly used primarily in spore display technology, rather than a traditional therapeutic target. This system leverages the exceptionally strong non-covalent bond between the protein streptavidin and the vitamin biotin to anchor various effector molecules—such as antigens, enzymes, or antibodies—onto the outer coat of hardy bacterial spores, typically from Bacillus subtilis (Isticato et al., 2001).
