Target intelligence / Profile preview
BIRC6 antisense RNA 1 (BIRC6-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) transcribed from the antisense strand at the BIRC6 locus. Little to no direct functional characterization exists for BIRC6-AS1 in the peer-reviewed literature. Its name and locus suggest a potential function in regulating the expression of BIRC6, a gene with substantial roles in cell survival and apoptosis, but BIRC6-AS1 itself is not a canonical protein, enzyme, receptor, or validated therapeutic target. Most knowledge, biological rationale, and disease association in this genomic region pertain to the coding gene BIRC6 (BRUCE/Apollon), not to BIRC6-AS1. Note: If the intent was to refer to BIRC6 (BRUCE/Apollon)—a ubiquitin-conjugating inhibitor of apoptosis protein highly relevant to cancer biology and targeted by antisense oligonucleotides—please clarify. All major research, drug development, and mechanistic literature concern BIRC6 and not the antisense RNA BIRC6-AS1.
