Bisacodyl is a synthetic diphenylmethane derivative stimulant laxative used to treat constipation and to prepare the bowel for medical procedures. It acts locally on the large intestine by stimulating enteric nerves, increasing peristaltic contractions, and enhancing fluid and electrolyte secretion, resulting in bowel evacuation. Its effects appear within 6–12 hours of oral dosing or within one hour of rectal administration. Although it has been widely used since the 1950s, bisacodyl is classified strictly as a small molecule drug and is not a molecular target such as a receptor or enzyme[2][3][5][8][10].
