Overview
Bla g 1 is a major allergen derived from the German cockroach (*Blattella germanica*). It is a lipid-binding protein with a proposed function in non-specific lipid transport/digestion within the cockroach midgut microvilli. It is a significant allergen for humans, with IgE binding detected in a large percentage of patients with cockroach hypersensitivity. Sensitization to Bla g 1 is strongly linked to increased risk for asthma development and severity.
