Overview

BLOC-1-related complex subunit 6 (BORCS6) is a protein component of the BORC (BLOC-one-related complex), which is essential for proper lysosome positioning within cells, endo-lysosomal trafficking, and the fusion of lysosomes with endosomes and autophagosomes[1][3][5]. BORCS6 functions in coordination with other BORC subunits to control the movement and dispersal of lysosomes—organelles central to cellular waste degradation and recycling—toward the cell periphery. Disruption of BORCS6 leads to abnormal lysosome clustering, accumulation of late endosomes, and impaired cellular degradation processes, which in model organisms causes developmental arrest during embryogenesis due to defective endo-lysosomal fusion and perturbed cell lineage ratio[1][3]. While other subunits of the related BLOC-1 complex are linked to diseases such as Hermansky-Pudlak syndrome and possibly neuropsychiatric disorders, no direct drug interactions, clinical biomarker applications, or recognized safety concerns are presently attributed specifically to BORCS6 in the literature[1][2][5].
