Overview

Blood circulation acceleration is a physiological and pharmacological effect rather than a specific molecular target like a protein or receptor. It refers to an increase in the rate and volume of blood flow through the systemic or localized vasculature, often serving as a primary therapeutic goal in treating conditions such as peripheral artery disease, ischemic stroke, and various inflammatory disorders [4, 6]. This effect is typically mediated by diverse molecular pathways, including the activation of endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) to induce vasodilation or the stimulation of adrenergic receptors to enhance cardiac performance [8]. In traditional medicine, particularly Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), specific herbal extracts such as 'Snow Lotus' (Saussurea involucrata) are utilized specifically for their ability to accelerate blood circulation to resolve 'blood stasis' [5, 10]. While clinically beneficial for improving oxygen and nutrient delivery to tissues, excessive acceleration of circulation can lead to adverse effects such as hypotension, increased risk of bleeding, and cardiovascular stress.

Mechanism of action

Acceleration of blood circulation is achieved through several physiological mechanisms: vasodilation (mediated by the nitric oxide-cGMP pathway or calcium channel blockade), increase in cardiac output (via beta-adrenergic receptor stimulation), or reduction of blood viscosity and platelet aggregation to improve rheological properties.
