Overview

BMAL2-AS1 (BMAL2 antisense RNA 1, also known as ARNTL2-AS1 or ARNTL2 antisense RNA 1) is a long non-coding RNA gene partly overlapping with the ARNTL2 (BMAL2) gene region. It is classified as an antisense transcript, which means it is transcribed from the DNA strand opposite to the protein-coding ARNTL2 gene. Antisense lncRNAs often play a role in regulating the expression of their corresponding sense gene via epigenetic, transcriptional, or post-transcriptional mechanisms. However, the specific function and disease relevance of BMAL2-AS1 remain largely unstudied. There is no current evidence that this RNA product acts as a therapeutic target, receptor, enzyme, or is involved in direct pharmacological modulation. As a non-coding transcript, BMAL2-AS1 is distinct from the protein-coding circadian regulator ARNTL2 (BMAL2), for which there is more established information on biological function and disease involvement[7]. BMAL2-AS1 is *not* a protein, receptor, enzyme, or classical therapeutic target[7]. Current data do not support any direct link to therapies, drugs, or established biomarker use[7]. Its molecular function is inferred by analogy with other antisense lncRNAs, generally as a *regulatory RNA*, but not confirmed for BMAL2-AS1 specifically[7].
