Overview

BNC1 antisense RNA 1 (BNC1-AS1) is a long noncoding RNA transcribed antisense to the BNC1 gene locus. As with related antisense lncRNAs, BNC1-AS1 regulates gene expression via transcriptional, post-transcriptional, and epigenetic mechanisms—including chromatin modification, mRNA stability, and translational control[2][4]. These lncRNAs are increasingly understood as functional regulators, with roles in oncogenesis, disease progression, and cellular differentiation. The specific biological and pathological roles of BNC1-AS1 are still under investigation; existing evidence suggests regulatory and disease relevance analogous to other antisense lncRNAs[1][4]. It may act by recruiting chromatin-modifying enzymes, forming RNA duplexes with sense transcripts, or modulating nearby and distant gene expression via three-dimensional nuclear interactions[1][4].

Mechanism of action

Drugs targeting BNC1-AS1 may act via antisense therapy (using oligonucleotides or RNAi approaches to block/regulate), epigenetic interference (blocking recruitment of chromatin-modifying enzymes), or altering RNA duplex formation for mRNA stability.
