Overview

BNO69 is a proprietary therapeutic target discovered by Bionomics Limited using its Angene genomics platform [1, 10]. It is a protein that is significantly over-expressed in the endothelial cells of blood vessels within solid tumors, particularly in breast cancer [1, 11]. BNO69 is considered an early player in the genetic cascade that coordinates angiogenesis, the process by which tumors develop new blood vessels to sustain their growth and facilitate metastasis [19, 23]. Bionomics has developed gene-silencing molecules (siRNAs) and explored small molecule inhibitors to target BNO69 [1, 19]. By disrupting the function of tumor-associated endothelial cells, these inhibitors aim to starve the tumor of oxygen and nutrients, thereby suppressing tumor growth and preventing the spread of cancer cells [1, 11]. Preclinical studies in animal models have demonstrated that silencing the BNO69 gene can effectively inhibit the growth of breast cancer cells [12, 19].
