BolA family member 2 pseudogene 3 (BOLA2P3) is a human pseudogene related by sequence to the functional gene BOLA2, which is involved in iron homeostasis, Fe–S cluster biogenesis, and cell morphology when functional.[3][6] However, BOLA2P3 itself is classified specifically as a pseudogene: a genomic DNA segment resembling a gene but considered nonfunctional due to disabling mutations or lack of expression.[7][8][4] Pseudogenes like BOLA2P3 do not encode functional proteins and generally lack a role as drug targets, biomarkers, or disease-associated genes, unless otherwise reported—information not currently available or supported for BOLA2P3. Some pseudogenes can have regulatory functions (e.g., acting as RNA decoys or regulators of gene expression), but no such regulatory or functional role has been ascribed to BOLA2P3 in current scientific literature.[2][7] Key Point: BOLA2P3 is a noncoding pseudogene and is not considered a therapeutic target, nor does it have any established biological or disease associations.[7][8][4]
