Overview

BolA family member 3 pseudogene 2 (BOLA3P2) is classified as a processed pseudogene and is a retrocopy of the functional BolA family member 3 (BOLA3) gene[1][3][5]. Pseudogenes are genomic DNA sequences similar to normal genes but are nonfunctional, typically due to accumulated mutations that abolish their ability to encode a functional protein[4]. BOLA3P2 does not produce a functional protein and is not considered a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or any other canonical therapeutic target[1][3][4]. While some pseudogenes have been implicated in gene regulation or act as sources of regulatory noncoding RNAs, there is no evidence in the literature or gene databases indicating any known biological function, disease association, or pharmacological relevance for BOLA3P2 specifically[1][3][4]. Thus, it is not a therapeutic target, and its inclusion as such is likely incorrect[1][3][4].

02

Biological functions

Other (does not encode a functional protein; may have minor noncoding RNA or regulatory roles)
03

Disease associations

Other (not a direct disease target; pseudogenes can sometimes participate in gene regulation, but no evidence links BOLA3P2 specifically to disease processes)
