BOLA3 divergent transcript (BOLA3-DT) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) that functions as an antisense transcript to the BOLA3 gene. Unlike protein-coding targets, BOLA3-DT does not encode a protein but can influence gene expression via transcriptional interference, chromatin state modulation, or post-transcriptional mechanisms[3]. BOLA3-DT is notably downregulated in prostate cancer, and its expression inversely correlates with serum PSA levels, making it a promising diagnostic biomarker for this disease[5]. More broadly, such antisense lncRNAs are recognized for their regulatory roles in transcription and chromatin biology but are not themselves enzymes, receptors, or typical drug targets[3][2]. There is no evidence that BOLA3-DT is a therapeutic target for pharmacological intervention, nor are there interactive drugs or known mechanisms of action in the classical pharmacology sense. The main clinical relevance currently is as a potential biomarker for certain cancers, especially prostate cancer[5].
