Bone marrow-derived mononuclear cells (BMMNCs) are a heterogeneous population of cells isolated from bone marrow, defined by their single, unilobed or round nuclei and the absence of cytoplasmic granules. They include hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells, mesenchymal stem/stromal cells, endothelial progenitor cells, lymphoid lineage cells, monocytes and macrophages, and other progenitor cells. BMMNCs are studied for their regenerative potential, particularly in cardiovascular and ischemic diseases, due to their ability to promote angiogenesis, modulate immune responses, and support tissue repair via paracrine signaling and differentiation. Isolation is typically performed by density gradient centrifugation. While early clinical trials suggested benefits, more recent studies show only marginal improvements compared with controls.
