Bone Marrow Stromal Cell Antigen 2 (BST2), also known as CD317 or Tetherin, is a transmembrane protein expressed on various cell types, most notably bone marrow stromal cells and plasmacytoid dendritic cells (pDCs). It plays a role in innate immunity by restricting the release of enveloped viruses from infected cells. BST2 expression is upregulated by type I interferons (IFNs) and IFN-gamma, making it a marker for interferon-stimulated genes (ISGs) and cellular activation. It is involved in cytokine trafficking within cells such as pDCs.
