Target intelligence / Profile preview
Bone morphogenetic protein 6 (BMP6) is a secreted signaling molecule belonging to the TGF-β superfamily. It plays a critical role in various biological processes, including bone and cartilage formation, iron homeostasis, and embryonic development. BMP6 functions primarily through the activation of Smad-dependent and MAPK signaling pathways, leading to the regulation of gene transcription. Aberrant BMP6 expression is implicated in diseases such as hereditary hemochromatosis, anemia, prostate cancer metastasis to bone, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
Signaling via Smad-dependent and MAPK pathways, regulating gene transcription related to bone formation, iron homeostasis and development.
