Target intelligence / Profile preview

Bone morphogenetic protein receptor type IA (BMPR1A)

Target
BMPR1A
Molecular classification
Receptor, Transmembrane serine/threonine kinase receptor, Type I BMP receptor
01

Overview

BMPR1A is a transmembrane serine/threonine kinase receptor and a member of the TGF-beta superfamily receptors. It is a type I BMP receptor that binds BMP2, BMP4, GDF5, and GDF6. It plays critical roles in embryonic development, osteogenesis, and cell differentiation. Mutations in BMPR1A are linked with juvenile polyposis syndrome.

Other names
CD292
02

Mechanism of action

Ligand binding to the type II receptor, recruitment of a type I receptor, phosphorylation of the type I receptor by the type II kinase, activated type I receptor phosphorylates SMAD effectors, which then mediate downstream transcriptional responses
