Target intelligence / Profile preview
Bordetella pertussis fimbrial protein 2 (Fim2) is a major structural component of the fimbriae produced by B. pertussis. It mediates adhesion to host tissues, specifically ciliated epithelial cells in the human respiratory tract, facilitating colonization and infection. Expression is phase-variable and regulated by the bvgAS system. Fim2 is a target of the immune response and is included in acellular pertussis vaccines.
Antibodies against Fim2 prevent bacterial adhesion.
