Bordetella pertussis whole cell refers to the use of the entire, inactivated bacterium Bordetella pertussis as an antigen or immunogen. This preparation is commonly used in research and historically formed the basis of early pertussis (whooping cough) vaccines. The inactivated cell presents a broad array of antigens to the immune system, stimulating a robust immune response. Key antigens include pertussis toxin (PT), adenylate cyclase toxin (ACT), filamentous hemagglutinin (FHA), pertactin (PRN), and fimbriae (FIM).
