Borrelia outer surface proteins (Osps) are a diverse group of membrane-associated proteins found on the surface of Borrelia species, most notably *Borrelia burgdorferi*. These proteins play critical roles in the bacterium’s lifecycle, including dissemination, virulence, tissue tropism, immune evasion, and host-pathogen interactions. OspA and OspC are among the most studied, with OspA being predominantly expressed in ticks and OspC during mammalian infection. Many Osps are immunogenic and have been targets for vaccine development. Their expression is tightly regulated, and they mediate adhesion to host tissues and contribute to immune evasion.
