Overview

BOS complex subunit NOMO3 (NOMO3) is a widely conserved type I transmembrane glycoprotein that is a component of the multi-pass translocon (MPT) complex, mediating the insertion of multi-pass membrane proteins into the lipid bilayer of membranes after initial steps by the SEC61 complex. NOMO3, in conjunction with its paralogs NOMO1 and NOMO2, plays a role in the maintenance of ER morphology, specifically in imposing and regulating the spacing of ER sheets and potentially affecting autophagic and lysosomal routes. While NOMO family proteins have been implicated in the regulation of Nodal signaling during vertebrate development, direct disease associations remain limited or are attributed to nearby genes. No known drugs or therapeutic targeting have been described for this protein.
