Botulinum neurotoxin F (BoNT/F) is a potent neurotoxic protein produced by Clostridium botulinum. It functions as a zinc-dependent endopeptidase that cleaves SNARE proteins, primarily VAMPs 1, 2, and 3, preventing the release of acetylcholine at neuromuscular junctions, resulting in flaccid paralysis. While less common than other serotypes in human botulism cases, BoNT/F is under investigation for potential therapeutic applications.
