Botulinum neurotoxin type B (BoNT/B) is a protein neurotoxin produced by the bacterium *Clostridium botulinum* type B. It is synthesized as an inactive single-chain polypeptide (~150 kDa), which becomes active after proteolytic cleavage into heavy and light chains. The light chain cleaves vesicle-associated membrane protein 2 (VAMP2/synaptobrevin II), a key component of the SNARE complex required for acetylcholine vesicle fusion, blocking acetylcholine release and causing flaccid paralysis.
Cleaves VAMP2/synaptobrevin II, blocking acetylcholine release at neuromuscular junctions and autonomic nerve endings, resulting in flaccid paralysis or inhibition of glandular secretion.
