Botulinum neurotoxin type C (BoNT/C) is a highly potent neurotoxic protein produced by *Clostridium botulinum*. It cleaves SNAP-25 and syntaxin, SNARE proteins essential for acetylcholine release, leading to flaccid paralysis. BoNT/C is associated with botulism outbreaks, especially in animals, and uniquely induces motoneuron degeneration.
The light chain of BoNT/C functions as a zinc-dependent metalloprotease that cleaves SNAP-25 and syntaxin, SNARE proteins essential for acetylcholine release at neuromuscular junctions, leading to flaccid paralysis.
