Botulinum neurotoxin type D (BoNT/D) is a potent neurotoxic protein produced by *Clostridium botulinum*. It causes flaccid paralysis by inhibiting acetylcholine release at neuromuscular junctions through cleavage of the SNARE protein VAMP2. While highly toxic to certain animals, it exhibits lower toxicity in humans due to inefficient cleavage of the human VAMP1 isoform. Crystal structure data are available under PDB ID: 2FPQ.
