Bovine-derived hydroxyapatite is a xenogeneic bone substitute material obtained from bovine bone through chemical and thermal processing to remove organic components (Siddiqui et al., 2018). This process results in a porous, inorganic scaffold that is chemically and structurally analogous to human bone mineral, primarily composed of calcium phosphate (Titsinides et al., 2019). It is widely utilized in orthopedic and dental procedures, such as ridge augmentation and sinus lifts, due to its excellent osteoconductive properties (Araújo et al., 2008). Although it does not function as a traditional therapeutic target like a receptor or enzyme, it provides a physical framework that supports the attachment and proliferation of osteogenic cells. Furthermore, it can serve as a delivery vehicle for bioactive molecules like bone morphogenetic proteins or antibiotics to promote localized healing (Kim et al., 2013).
