Intestinal function

Intestinal function refers to the integrated physiological activities of the gastrointestinal tract, including the mechanical and chemical digestion of food, the absorption of nutrients, water, and electrolytes, and the maintenance of a selective barrier against pathogens (StatPearls, 2023).
