BPTF-associated chromatin complex component 1 (BACC1), also known as BAP18/C17orf49, is a protein component of the MLL1/MLL (Mixed Lineage Leukemia 1) complex and is predicted to be involved in chromatin organization and regulation of gene expression[3][5]. BACC1 is part of multi-protein chromatin remodeling complexes, such as MLL1 and potentially NuRF, which are involved in modifying chromatin accessibility—a key mechanism underlying transcriptional activation and repression[4][5][6]. Although BACC1 is considered a chromatin regulatory protein, it remains relatively uncharacterized compared to its binding partner BPTF and is not established as a direct therapeutic target[1][3]. Its gene products are detected mainly in the cytosol and nucleoplasm[3] and are thought to facilitate the function of major chromatin complexes, impacting development, cell fate, and possibly oncogenic processes[4][6]. However, there is currently no evidence of direct drug targeting, biomarker qualification, or therapeutic targeting of BACC1 in clinical settings.
