Brain electrical activity

Brain electrical activity refers to the ensemble of electrical signals produced by the ionic movement across neuronal membranes and the coordinated activity of neural circuits in the brain[1][3][4]. These signals—mainly generated by the postsynaptic potentials of cortical pyramidal neurons—are recorded as brain waves using EEG or related techniques[1][6][9]. EEG patterns reflect various behavioral and physiological states and are critical in diagnosing epilepsy, sleep disorders, brain injury, and other neuropsychiatric conditions[5][9]. Brain electrical activity itself is not a molecular or druggable target but a composite physiological output used for clinical and research assessment.
