Overview

Brain-specific angiogenesis inhibitor 1-associated protein 2-like protein 1 (BAIAP2L1, also known as IRTKS) is a member of the IMD (IRSp53/MIM homology domain) family classified as an adapter/scaffold protein. It contains a conserved F-actin bundling (IMD) domain at the N-terminus and an SH3 domain at the C-terminus, and participates in the reorganization of the actin cytoskeleton and membrane deformation, linking these processes to cell signaling pathways. BAIAP2L1 is a substrate for the insulin receptor tyrosine kinase, binds the small GTPase Rac, and modulates insulin receptor–IRS1–PI3K–AKT signaling by regulating the interaction between IRS1 and the insulin receptor. It is also involved in actin assembly during bacterial (EHEC) infection and the formation of actin bundles in mammalian cells[1][2][3][4][8]. No drugs are known to target BAIAP2L1 directly, nor are there established mechanisms of action, biomarkers, or notable safety concerns related to this protein as a therapeutic target[1][4][8].
