BRCA2 and CDKN1A-interacting protein (BCCIP) is an evolutionarily conserved nuclear protein with multiple interacting domains, structurally similar to GNAT acetyltransferases but functionally divergent. BCCIP plays a vital role as a cofactor for the tumor suppressor BRCA2 and modulator of cell cycle regulation through CDK2 and p21, promoting cell cycle arrest and stable chromosome dynamics. It is essential for ribosome biogenesis, microtubule anchoring, and regulation of DNA repair by homologous recombination. BCCIP is implicated as a tumor suppressor, with decreased expression associated with several cancers, embryonic development defects, and genome instability.
Modulation of DNA repair pathways; Regulation of CDK2 kinase activity via association with p21 (CDKN1A); Tumor suppression via interaction with BRCA2; Control of cell cycle and spindle regulation by anchoring microtubules; Ribosome biogenesis via binding and recruitment roles. Therapeutic manipulation of these mechanisms is theoretical at present.
