Breakpoint Cluster Region-Abelson Murine Leukemia Viral Oncogene Homolog 1 (BCR-ABL1)

Target
BCR-ABL1
Molecular classification
Fusion protein, Tyrosine kinase, Oncoprotein
01

Overview

BCR-ABL1 is a fusion protein and oncogenic tyrosine kinase resulting from the translocation between chromosomes 9 and 22, known as the Philadelphia chromosome. This genetic rearrangement fuses part of the BCR gene (from chromosome 22) with part of the ABL1 gene (from chromosome 9), creating an abnormal fusion gene, BCR-ABL1. The presence of this fusion protein is a hallmark of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) and is also found in some cases of acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) and, rarely, acute myeloid leukemia (AML). BCR-ABL1 drives leukemogenesis by promoting unchecked proliferation and inhibiting apoptosis.
