Target intelligence / Profile preview
Breast carcinoma amplified sequence 4 (BCAS4) is a 211 amino acid cytoplasmic protein, approximately 23 kDa, encoded by the BCAS4 gene located at chromosome 20q13.2[1][2][4][6]. BCAS4 was identified due to frequent chromosomal amplification at loci 20q13 in breast cancer and is co-amplified and sometimes fused with other genes (such as BCAS3) in some cancer cell lines, notably MCF7. Despite its amplification and overexpression in breast cancers, BCAS4 has no homology to other known proteins, receptors, or standard targets such as enzymes or channels. It is predicted to be a part of the BLOC-1 complex, involved in cellular transport and vesicle trafficking, and localized in the cytoplasm. The precise biological functions remain undetermined, but its aberrant amplification implicates it in tumorigenesis, particularly breast cancer. BCAS4 is not an established therapeutic target, and no drugs are reported to interact directly with it[1][2][4][6][7]. If additional information emerges (e.g., a confirmed functional role or direct druggability), the classification as "is_target" may change. For now, BCAS4 is best described as a cancer-associated cytoplasmic protein, not a receptor or classic drug target.
