BRICHOS domain-containing protein 5 (BRICD5)

BRICHOS domain-containing protein 5 (BRICD5) is a predicted membrane-associated protein containing a BRICHOS domain, classified within the BRICHOS protein superfamily[1][2]. It has been implicated in the regulation of cell population proliferation, with studies suggesting that alterations in its DNA methylation state are associated with increased lung cancer risk, indicating its potential value as a cancer risk biomarker[1]. Expression changes during rapid spermatogenic cell proliferation suggest a possible role in testicular development, although its exact biological function remains unclear[1]. BRICHOS domain proteins in general are known for their chaperone-like activity, preventing misfolding and amyloid aggregation of specific substrate proteins, and have been linked to diseases such as cancer, dementia, and respiratory disorders[2][3].
