Broad cellular and microbial components is a collective term used to describe a wide array of molecular structures derived from both host cells and invading microorganisms. This category primarily includes Pathogen-Associated Molecular Patterns (PAMPs), such as lipopolysaccharides and peptidoglycans, and Damage-Associated Molecular Patterns (DAMPs), which are endogenous molecules like HMGB1 released during cellular distress (Janeway & Medzhitov, 2002; StatPearls, 2023). Therapeutic intervention involving these components typically utilizes non-specific agents like antiseptics (e.g., chlorhexidine), which act by broadly disrupting microbial membranes and denaturing proteins (McDonnell & Russell, 1999).
