Bromodomain-containing protein 4 (BRD4) is a member of the BET (Bromodomain and Extra-Terminal domain) family of proteins that functions as a chromatin reader. It binds to acetylated lysine residues on histone tails, influencing gene transcription, epigenetic memory, and cell cycle progression. BRD4 plays a crucial role in recruiting transcription factors, regulating RNA polymerase II activity, and maintaining epigenetic information during cell division. Dysregulation of BRD4 is implicated in various diseases, including cancer and inflammatory conditions, making it an important therapeutic target. Inhibitors of BRD4 are currently under clinical investigation for their potential to block cell proliferation and modulate inflammatory responses.
