Bromodomain testis-associated protein (BRDT) is an epigenetic reader and transcriptional regulatory protein that specifically binds to acetylated histones via its two bromodomains (BD1 and BD2). It is almost exclusively expressed in the testis, where it serves as a master regulator of meiosis and post-meiotic genome repackaging during spermatogenesis. BRDT interprets histone acetylation signals to orchestrate testis-specific gene expression and chromatin rearrangement. Emerging evidence highlights its ectopic expression and functional roles in certain cancers, such as esophageal squamous cell carcinoma. BRDT is a member of the BET family, sharing high homology with related proteins BRD2, BRD3, and BRD4, and, like other BET proteins, is targeted by small-molecule inhibitors that disrupt its bromodomain-mediated interactions, providing a potential strategy for contraception and cancer therapy
