Bromodomain testis-specific protein (BRDT) is a member of the bromodomain and extra-terminal motif (BET) protein family. It acts as an epigenetic reader by binding acetylated histones, regulating transcriptional activity and chromatin organization during spermatogenesis. BRDT is a potential target for male contraception and cancer therapy due to its role in testis-specific gene expression and aberrant expression in some tumors.
BET inhibitors block the region responsible for chromatin binding on BRDT, inhibiting its role in testis-specific gene expression and chromatin reorganization.
