Target intelligence / Profile preview
Bronchial secretion is the mixture of mucus and serous fluid produced by the cells lining the bronchial airways. This secretion is a critical component of the innate defense system in the respiratory tract, serving to protect airway surfaces from pathogens, environmental toxins, and inhaled particulates. It is composed of water, mucins (MUC5AC and MUC5B), free proteins, antibacterial proteins/peptides, and surfactant components. While essential for airway health, excessive or impaired bronchial secretion contributes to the morbidity of diseases such as asthma, COPD, and cystic fibrosis.
