Bronchial Secretory Cell

Molecular classification
Epithelial Cell, Secretory Cell
01

Overview

Bronchial secretory cells are specialized epithelial cells in the bronchial airways responsible for secreting mucus and other substances that maintain airway health. They trap particles, pathogens, and harmful gases, keeping inspired air moist. Different subtypes (goblet, serous, Clara/club, neuroendocrine) perform distinct functions. They contribute to lung defense, alveolar repair, and CFTR expression. Alterations in secretory cell function are implicated in respiratory diseases such as chronic bronchitis and cystic fibrosis, leading to impaired lung defense mechanisms.
