Brown snake venom neurotoxins are a group of highly potent proteins found in the venom of the genus Pseudonaja, which includes the Eastern Brown Snake (Pseudonaja textilis), one of the world's most venomous land snakes [1]. These toxins are primarily categorized into presynaptic and postsynaptic neurotoxins. The most significant component is textilotoxin, a complex presynaptic phospholipase A2 that prevents the release of acetylcholine from motor nerve terminals, leading to profound neuromuscular blockade [2]. Postsynaptic neurotoxins, such as pseudonajatoxin, act by binding to nicotinic acetylcholine receptors at the neuromuscular junction, further inhibiting muscle contraction [3]. Clinically, envenomation by these toxins results in progressive paralysis and potentially fatal respiratory failure [4]. Therapeutic intervention relies on the administration of specific antivenoms, which contain antibodies that neutralize these toxins before they can bind to their physiological targets [5].
