Overview

BSD domain-containing protein 1 (BSDC1) is a protein encoded in humans by the BSDC1 gene. It contains a unique ~60-amino acid BSD domain, named after BTF2-like transcription factors, synapse-associated proteins, and DOS2-like proteins, found in diverse species from protozoa to humans. The BSD domain is characterized by a predicted three-helix bundle structure, but its specific biochemical or cellular function remains unknown. While proteins with BSD domains can act as transcription factors in some species, there is currently no evidence that human BSDC1 is a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or a classic therapeutic target. BSDC1 is predicted to be active in the cytoplasm and has one important paralog, SYAP1. There are currently no known drugs, safety concerns, or clinical biomarkers directly associated with this protein[1][2][5][10][11].
