Overview

BSG antisense RNA 1 (BSG-AS1) is a naturally occurring long non-coding antisense RNA transcript complementary to the BSG gene. As an lncRNA, BSG-AS1 is not translated into protein. General functions of antisense RNAs include modulation of gene expression through RNA-RNA and epigenetic interactions[1][7]. BSG-AS1 has been implicated in the regulation of biological events such as cell growth or differentiation, and its differential expression is associated with certain cancers, notably hepatocellular carcinoma[1][2]. However, BSG-AS1 is not considered a classical therapeutic target like receptors or enzymes, and no drugs are known to act directly on it. Its broader relevance is as part of a growing research focus on non-coding RNAs and their roles in disease, especially cancer[2][7].
