BTBD3 antisense RNA 1 (BTBD3-AS1)

Target
BTBD3-AS1
Molecular classification
Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA), Antisense transcript
01

Overview

BTBD3 antisense RNA 1 (BTBD3-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA produced from the DNA strand opposite the BTBD3 gene. Non-coding antisense RNAs like BTBD3-AS1 are typically involved in the post-transcriptional regulation of their sense gene partners, often by forming double-stranded RNA complexes that can influence mRNA stability, splicing, transport, or translation. As with other lncRNA antisense transcripts, dysregulation of BTBD3-AS1 could theoretically contribute to disease states, particularly cancer, through altered control of BTBD3 expression. However, no published evidence yet demonstrates a direct role or therapeutic targetability of BTBD3-AS1 itself in human disease.

02

Mechanism of action

Not applicable (no drugs or ligands known to directly target BTBD3-AS1)

03

Biological functions

Regulation of gene expression at the RNA level (post-transcriptional regulation)Potential involvement in modulation of BTBD3 mRNA and protein expression (by forming RNA duplexes with sense transcript, based on mechanisms known for antisense RNAs)
04

Disease associations

Cancer (dysregulation of antisense lncRNAs has been implicated in various tumors; there is, however, no direct evidence in the search results specifically associating BTBD3-AS1 with a particular cancer type or disease)
