Overview

C-C motif chemokine ligand 1 (CCL1) is a small secreted glycoprotein belonging to the CC chemokine family. It is chiefly produced by activated T lymphocytes, monocytes/macrophages, and endothelial cells. CCL1 acts primarily via binding to the chemokine receptor CCR8, inducing calcium influx, chemotaxis (migration) of immune cells such as monocytes, Th2-differentiated T cells, regulatory T cells, and a subset of B and NK cells, as well as regulating apoptosis. The CCL1–CCR8 pathway is implicated in leukocyte recruitment during inflammatory, neoplastic, and infectious processes. Dysregulation is associated with cancer, immunopathology such as atopic inflammation and neuroinflammation, and chronic pulmonary disease. CCL1 is considered a therapeutic target mainly through its receptor CCR8, for which inhibitory antibodies and other modulators are being investigated primarily in cancer and immunomodulation contexts[1][2][3][5].
