CCL11, also known as Eotaxin-1, is a chemokine primarily responsible for the recruitment of eosinophils to sites of inflammation. It plays a key role in allergic diseases such as asthma and allergic rhinitis. Elevated levels are also associated with aging, neurodegenerative conditions, psychiatric disorders, and other inflammatory conditions. CCL11 exerts its effects mainly through interaction with the CCR3 receptor, but can also interact with CCR2, CCR5, and CXCR3. It is produced by various cell types, including lymphocytes, macrophages, and epithelial cells, in response to inflammatory stimuli.
