CCL17, also known as TARC, is a CC chemokine involved in immune cell trafficking. It is primarily produced by dendritic cells and macrophages and acts as a chemoattractant for T-helper cells (especially Th2) and regulatory T cells by binding to the CCR4 receptor. It plays a crucial role in T cell development, trafficking/activation of mature T lymphocytes during immune responses, and recruitment of these cells to sites of inflammation or disease. Elevated levels are associated with inflammatory conditions and certain cancers, making it a potential therapeutic target.
Acts as a chemoattractant for Th2 and regulatory T cells via binding to CCR4 receptor. Also binds CCR8 but with less functional significance compared to CCR4.
