C-C motif chemokine ligand 27 (CCL27), also known as cutaneous T cell-attracting chemokine (CTACK), is a small cytokine belonging to the CC chemokine family. It is primarily expressed by keratinocytes in the epidermis and functions as a potent chemoattractant for skin-homing memory T lymphocytes that express the receptor CCR10. CCL27 plays an essential role in mediating immune surveillance of the skin under normal conditions, but its expression is upregulated during inflammation by pro-inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-alpha and IL‑1β. Elevated serum levels of CCL27 are associated with inflammatory skin diseases including atopic dermatitis and psoriasis, where it correlates with disease severity. The molecule acts through binding to its main receptor CCR10, facilitating targeted migration of CLA+ memory T cells into inflamed or damaged cutaneous tissue. Its unique oligomerization properties may contribute to diverse interactions with glycosaminoglycans on cell surfaces, further modulating its function during immune responses.[1][2][3][4][5][6]
