C-C Motif Chemokine Ligand 5 (CCL5)

Target
CCL5
Molecular classification
Chemokine, CC Chemokine
01

Overview

C-C motif chemokine ligand 5 (CCL5), also known as RANTES, is a member of the CC chemokine family. It plays a crucial role in recruiting immune cells to sites of inflammation and is implicated in various diseases, including cancer, cardiovascular disorders, and HIV infection. CCL5 primarily binds to the CCR5 receptor, activating downstream signaling pathways involved in immune responses and inflammation. Its interaction with CCR5 can be targeted therapeutically, as exemplified by the use of maraviroc as a CCR5 antagonist for HIV treatment.
